Chemical education
Research is focused on the interface between secondary and tertiary education in chemistry. The preparedness of incoming chemistry students for first-year mainstream chemistry is monitored during the transition to Outcomes-based education and the introduction of new syllabi in the FET phase of secondary education. A second research initiative focuses on the procedural and conceptual knowledge of undergraduate students in mathematics and chemistry. The aim is to inform teaching practise for the advancement of conceptual understanding in both mathematics and chemistry, especially in areas of overlap
