Vibrational and Molecular Spectroscopy and Materials Chemistry

Research focuses on the utilisation of vibrational spectroscopy to investigate materials of importance for the characterization of organic, inorganic and organometallic compounds of fundamental scientific importance. Spectra of products resulting from the synthesis of complexes such as charge transfer and organometallic complexes are correlated with the spectra obtained by quantum mechanical methods, and this contributes to the study of the conformational space of such molecules. These spectroscopic methods are also used to study materials as part of a PBMR project – for example to distinguish between amorphous and graphite carbon samples
