Placebo and Clinical Trials - PACT
Placebo use in clinical trials is one of the most debated issues in international research ethics. While the controversy remains unresolved, more and more biomedical research is moving to countries with limited resources and a highly problematic, exploitative double standard could be the result. Despite the need of normative clarity in this situation, the relevant passages of ethical guidance documents turn out to be ambiguous and contradicting. To provide necessary and adequate information and orientation in this situation, the project addresses three levels of the placebo problem namely empirical data, normative regulations and philosophical analysis
