Tobacco control and oral health in South Africa

Controlling the use of all tobacco products is fundamental to prevention and control of oral cancer and periodontal (gum) disease. Our tobacco control research includes impact of traditional tobacco products namely hand-rolled cigarettes and snuff or chew tobaccos on oral health. Research involves product toxicology, behavioural epidemiology, cessation services within dental care settings and policy development
