Incidence of Tuberculosis, risk factors for Tuberculosis and Tuberculosis customers in a public sector-wide HAART programme in a South African Province

Tuberculosis and HIV are responsible for two closely intertwined epidemics in South Africa, both with severe impact on mortality and morbidity. In 2004, HAART was introduced in South Africa’s public sector HIV prevention and care program. This study aims to measure the independent influence of HAART and other possible predictor variables on TB incidence and TB treatment outcomes of patients enrolled in the Free State ART programme and to compare trends in treatment outcomes between clinics that are or are not ARV programme assessment sites.
