EMI generation and propagation in boost converters. Switching strategies for converters. The group focuses on developing switching strategies, modelling and control of 2-level, multi-level and AC-AC matrix converters. Particular emphasis is on DC-DC converters needed for building DC distribution-including those for automative industry- and hybrid energy storage systems, high energy efficiency high-brightness LED lighting systems, high energy efficiency compact fluorescent and HID lamps, high energy efficiency converters for interfacing PV solar panels with DC distribution systems and electric drives appications. Investigations on high energy efficiency active rectifiers for interfacing DC distribution systems with wind generators or the AC grid is also carried out. Further, the group is involved in modelling of generation and propagation mechanisms of EMI noise in both 2-level and multilevel DC-DC converters.
