Message by the Dean
The Faculty of Theology prides itself on publications
resulting from innovative research during the past year.
As in the past, the Faculty succeeded once again in
producing the highest number of research outputs per
capita at the University.
The Faculty’s vision and mission directed all its
research during the year under review. Its strategic
plan states that the Faculty strives to be a faculty
recognised for its creative engagement with life-giving
theology and religious insight, and to be of service to
academia, the church and the community. To achieve
this, it commits itself to providing relevant theological
and religious education, nurturing transformative
leaders, performing quality research, promoting justice,
peace, the integrity of creation and a reconciling
diversity, and engaging people on the margins of
society.
Without exception, all publications of research
conducted by the Faculty reflect these prospects.
Furthermore, research at the Faculty is significant,
especially because it aims to deliver community
service. Research takes both space and time seriously:
in postmodern Africa, the Faculty wishes to put its
research to the service of the Kingdom.
Besides the problem solution approach, research also
revealed some remarkable modest and preliminary
reservations. In Socrates’s sense of the word, the only
thing that one can know is that which one does not
know. In a global village, listening and speaking are
equally important.
The Faculty eagerly participates in this international
dialogue, as is reflected in most of its publications.
