Chemical education
Research is focused on the interface between secondary and tertiary education in chemistry. The preparedness of incoming chemistry students for first-year mainstream chemistry is monitored during the transition to Outcomes-based education and the introduction of new syllabi in the FET phase of secondary education. A second research initiative focuses on academic self-concept, specifically the prevalence of overconfidence among students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The aim of the study is to analyse influences on academic self-concept and its relationship to performance at first-year tertiary level
