Epidemiology and control of spread of grapevine leafroll disease. Winetech (South African Wine Industry
Grapevine leafroll disease is a serious disease of grapevines. A number of viruses are associated with it. Planting material from which viruses have been eliminated remains susceptible to viruses and when planted in vineyards often become infected again. In this project we intend clarifying the epidemiology of the disease in the South African industry by determining the most important means of spread of the disease by obtaining dynamic spread data within vineyards over a number of years. This will allow us to target the most important sources of infection and means of spread for development and evaluation on methods of control.
